George Floyd Uprising Case Sentences
Data
The data for this report are from two sources. The population of cases was identified using The Prosecution Project’s (tPP) dataset of summer/fall 2020 protest-related felony cases. This lists 1,630 cases, 366 of which are federal. This list is not comprehensive. The Prosecution Project occasionally adds cases to it. It was last updated on July 13, 2022.
The source for information on sentencing is the Federal Judicial Center’s (FJC) Integrated Database (IDB). It includes dispositions through September 2022.
276 of the federal offenders were matched to IDB data. 28 offenders without felony convictions were not matched because they have a co-defendant and the correct IDB record could not be determined without reviewing the docket individually. 44 offenders were not matched because they did not have a criminal docket. This leaves 16 criminal offenders whose cases could not be successfully matched to an IDB record, and whose disposition could not be confirmed.

Dispositions
229 of the defendants we matched to IDB records are associated with a
felony complaint.
32 of these cases do not have a recorded disposition. They are likely
still awaiting an outcome, or have not been updated yet. The harshest
dispositions for the other 197 cases are below.
Sentences
174 cases have a recorded Sentencing Date. 155 of those have a non-missing value for total prison time (including 0). 90% of those 155 defendants received 60 months or less. 26 of them received no prison time. The longest sentence so far is 15 years . The sentences for the 167 defendants convicted of felony offenses are represented below.

Terroristic offenses
20 of these defendants have pleaded guilty to and been sentenced for an offense included in 18 USC § 2332b(g)(5). 80% of them received 60 months or less. 4 of them received no prison time.Hover your mouse over a point to see defendant information.
Based on our research, Michael Solomon and Benjamin Teeter are the only defendants in whose case the prosecutor requested a terrorism enhancement. They are “Boogaloo Bois” who intended to engage in arms trafficking to aid a foreign terrorist organization. They cooperated extensively with federal officers after their arrest, and the judge denied the requests for a terrorism enhancement.
